There are many different causes of leg injuries in cats.

  • Traffic accidents.
  • A fall from a high location.
  • An infected bite wound.
  • A deep cut on the paw.
  • A burn on the paw.
  • A fractured claw.
  • A damaged or infected nailbed.
  • Arthritis.
  • Hip dysplasia.
  • Thrombosis.

A lame cat may not always be obvious as they tend to avoid movement.

If you notice that your cat is limping, take great care when picking it up or examining it.

Sometimes leg injuries will stop after a short time and the cat’s leg appears to be ok again.

Seek veterinary advice if you are concerned about your cat and it’s leg injury.

  1. Hi Catharine,
I am sorry to hear that your cat has been in a bad cat fight. Your cat may have an infection in the wound. Have you contacted your vet? If your cat won’t let you touch their leg then you may need a vet to take a look.
hope your cat gets better soon.
    Kind regards

  2. My cat was involved in a bad cat fight – he seems to have injured his right leg. On first day he was limping, now he is sort of swaying, and you cannot hear a click, but lookds like it is clicking as he walks. spits if I touch it.

  3. My cat started dragging his toes on his hind right. Some days it was more noticable than others. We took him to the vets three times and thats when they noticed that he has a tumour growing on his spine. He is gradually losing feeling in both legs.. Lameness can be serious.
