Guinea Fowl Chicks Hatching Out

Nine guinea fowl chicks have hatched out so far today. The time is currrently 9:50pm and I am awaiting at least 3 more to hatch. I expect it’s going to be a late night, but definately worth it.

I have spent most of the day with my nose pressed against the incubator window looking for signs of movement, cracks in eggs, beaks peeping out and listening for the odd cheep, cheep!

In between viewings I have been constructing my new brooder and preparing it for the new guinea fowl keets. I ordered the brooder at the weekend and because it was a bank holiday weekend it had not arrived by this morning. When I heard the odd cheep this morning I thought I might need to build myself a homemade brooder, but as luck would have it my brooder delivery arrived just before lunch. Unfortunately for me it arrived in flat pack form. It’s amazing how quickly the farmhouse kitchen can become deserted of the 3 farmers when a flat pack object needs to be constructed. Anyway as they say, if you want a job doing well, do it yourself, so I did!

The brooder looks great and I’m sure my feathered friends will think the same. Well I’d better dash back to the incubator to see if any more have hatched in my absense. I will let you know tomorrow, so stay tuned!
