An owl pellet is the regurgitated food items that an owl is unable to digest. The pellet is made up of bones, teeth, claws, fur and feathers of the birds, insects and small mammals that the owl has eaten.
If you find an owl pellet – you can carefully dissect the pellet to find out what the owl has eaten.
The size of the owl pellet can determine the age of the owl. The smaller pellets are usually from younger owls.
These pellets were all found on my farm and probably come from barn owls. At night I have seen barn owls roosting on the hay barn, but I have also seen a little owl down the lane and heard the call of the tawny owl at night.
