Cats – No sign of the strange new ginger cat. I can see why Fluffy has been wary of Stripe now as the Ginger cat looks abit like Stripe.
Cattle – One of the black cows is close to calving. It will be just our luck that she calves in the night when it is snowing!
Ducks – Got 6 duck eggs this morning. The ducks were not happy when snow stopped their play! Managed to break the ice in the ducks container so that they could have a dip and dunk their heads today.
Guinea Fowl – My guinea fowl do not like snow so I had to be quick rounding them up at lunchtime when it started to snow. Managed to get them all into the hut.
Guinea Pig – Guiness has been very snug hiding in all the straw today. I know he is there as he squecked as I walked past.
Hens – Got 2 hen eggs this morning and 1 cracked hen egg due to a thin shell. I think that some of the eggs have thin shells as the hens are getting old. I have grit in a tub for them at all times.
Pigs – The pigs are growing fast and looking well. It is verywarm in the barn with the straw and the body heat from two adult sows and nine young pigs. I often have to take my hat and coat off when I am mucking out as I get hot. one of the pigs nearly went for a walk in the fold yard tonight but I am glad that she changed her mind as I didn’t want to have to chase her around in the snow. I don’t know what pigs think of the snow, do you?
Quail – One of the quail had passed away this morning which was sad as they are looking healthy. Quail seem to be susceptible to illness when they are kept on soil.
Hi Martin,
Thanks for letting me know about your pigs enjoying the snow. What breed are they? Mine are Saddlebacks. I will email you and then you can send me the photo as I would like to see it. Thanks. Kind regards
