Today I said goodbye to 5 weaners. Belinda and Gregg who live in a neighbouring village, although found out about my piglets via the internet, have bought 3 gilts and 2 boars. They arrived at 10 am and went into the pig barn where the weaners were happily snoozing so they could choose which piglets they wanted. well that’s the theory, although the reality of catching the specific piglet you want out of 27 piglets is not easy once that piglet know you are after them!
Some of the weaners are very big and are just at the size when I can still hold them but only just! It took Gregg and I abit of time to catch the piglets we wanted although they didn’t make too much fuss once we had hold of them. When placed in the van which had been decked out with straw bales the piglets were happy to sit and check out the new smells in the van.
I am always a little sad to see the piglets go, but happy in the knowledge that they are going to a good home. Belinda and Gregg have said that I can go visit the piglets which will be interesting especially as I haven’t seen any of the piglets I have raised older than 6 months. so as their gilts get older it will be interesting to go visit them.
