Sowing Seeds – Green Thumb Sunday

I have been busy trying to keep on top of sowing seeds at the correct time of year.
Currently I have the following seeds germinating in the greenhouse:

Sweetpeas.
Broad beans.
Summer radish.
Marigolds.
Spinach.
Spinach beet.
Lilium regale.
Purple sprouting broccoli.

In the next few days I will be sowing the following seeds:

Rudbeckia.
Mesembryanthemums.
Cosmos.
Parsnips.
Dwarf French Beans.
Italian Flat Leaf Parsley.
Borage.

Crocus – Green Thumb Sunday

Crocus bulbs of different varieties and colours keep appearing in my garden as solitary blooms of colour. Fiona and Danny over at The Cottage Smallholder are enjoying pockets of beautiful wild crocus.
My favourite crocus from this year is the beautiful bright yellow crocus. Do you have a favourite type of crocus?

Crocus Imperati – Green Thumb Sunday

The Winter flowering crocus imperati is beginning to bloom in the orchard. I have one lone crocus so far and I look forward to seeing the beautiful petals open so that the magnificence of this pretty flower can brighten up the dreary landscape.

Snowdrops – Green Thumb Sunday

I noticed the first snowdrops began to emerge on the 18th January this year.
I love to see the carpets of snowdrops along the hedgerows and in my orchard. One year my husband gave me a bunch of snowdrops for Valentine’s day and he even arranged them in a heart shape in the vase!

At the moment I have these lovely Autumn flowering primroses blooming in my pots. They are near my backdoor so everytime I venture across the yard, which is quite frequent at the moment with the birth of the piglets, their vibrant colour adds a glow to the cold Autumnal day.

This photograph was taken by Lorna @ Family Natters while on holiday in Cornwall this year. The foxglove was growing wild in a wheat field.

Fuchsia – Green Thumb Sunday

I have a fuchsia planted in a pot near my back door and this week the blooms have started to open out. I particularly like this fuchsia as it has pinky red outer petals and then white petals forming the bell shape with pinky red stigma and stamen.
