I have never grown lilies from seed so I look forward to seeing the results. I have just read on Soilman’s site that his seeds have germinated. I am going to head out to the greenhouse now to see what is happening to mine – I’ll let you know.

I had never seen this lovely cheery plant until I moved to the farm. It would be easy to miss this lovely little plant as it is so tiny but the colour of the flower is so vibrant and bright that it stands out in the dreary winter garden. Check out the Winter Aconites flowering on Sunk Island.

6. An interesting new plant. It’s brand new to me. Right now, I have desert wildflowers coming up from the rains we received last month. We need more rain to help them really take off, so it will be touch and go as to whether I have a lot or a few this year.

9. So lovely to see these flowers at the end of winter. We once lived in a small Lincolnshire village where there were carpets of aconites. An elderly country gentleman told me that they dug them all up in the war, to use an extract of aconites as a medicine for our troops. I am sure he said it was quinine – but I think it must have been something ‘like-quinine’.

10. In Denmark you see these everywhere and everyone is excited at their appearance, as they bring a hint of spring. I’ve never seen them in England, and will have to look into TopVeg’s comment and see whether there’s a reason for it…

We learnt how to make a Christmas wreath and garland for the home or door. Both items were made from scratch using wire, moss, branches of alpine spruce and Christmas decorations.

It is now also a memorial tree as my two beloved cats Tigger and Go-cat are buried at the foot of the tree. When I visit the tree I can remember my two lovely happy go lucky cats that were taken from me early in their lives.
