Cattle Breeds Native To The United Kingdom

We have cattle on our farm, however all the breeds we keep – charolais, limousin, blonde d’aquitaine and saler are originally from abroad. This got me thinking about which cattle breeds are native to the United Kingom?

Cattle breeds native to the United Kingdom

  • Aberdeen Angus
  • Ayrshire
  • Blue Grey
  • British White
  • Dexter
  • Galloway
  • Guernsey

Please let me know if I have missed any cattle breeds native to the United Kingdom off the list. Do you have a favourite from this list? Leave a comment to let me know.

  1. I believe you missed some more breeds, though one could be listed as an original and the one you listed an off shoot. These are (pardon spelling)
    Gloucester
White Park (different from the British White I think the White Park has a similar look to the Texas Long horn)
    Devon (South Devon an offshout)
    Sussex

  2. Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for visiting farmingfriends and letting me know about the Shetland cattle.I have added them to my list. Do you have cattle yourself?
    Kind regards
