Hi Robert,
Thank you. I am glad that you got some guinea from the eggs I sent you and so glad that they are your favourites. Guinea folw have such quirky characters.
Funnily enough Laura, one of the farmingfriends members has collected the guinea fowl and ducks today so they have now been rehomed. Thanks for thinking of me.

Hi Sara,

congratulations on your news, wish you all the best. Sorry to see that you have not had any responses regarding a new home for your Guineas. I have 2 guineas, both pied lavender, that I hatched from eggs that you sent me last year. They are the first Guineas that I have had and although they do have a few flockmates now they are still my favourites.
I cannot meet your requirements for rehoming and I am in Wiltshire which is probably too far anyway, but if you are still looking for a home I have a suggestion that might possibly help, email me if you are still looking.

best regards

Hi Emmanuel,

Always happy to supply hatching eggs when we have them. I ask £1 per egg plus £5.60 p&p for any number up to 24. My Guineas lay 8 eggs per day but we normally lose one or two to rooks etc so 24 is the right amount to get them shipped without being too old. I have a nice mix of colours including white, lavender and royal purple.

Our birds are only a year old and free range all day and are producing good sized eggs. If you let me know how many you would like and your email address I can send you a Paypal request for payment.

best regards

If you are still looking for eggs I could post some to you, I sent 24 up to Yorkshire last week and have 24 in my incubator. The fertility rate is good, 2 candled clear(infertile) and 1 stopped developing but the rest are coming along well.

The humidity should be around 75-80% humidity for guinea eggs.

You can tell humidity using a hygrometer which you can purchase from a pet store of in the reptile section of the local department store. You may also be able to find one in the lawn and garden section with the outdoor thermometers.

Hi Sara,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner - thanks for taking the time and trouble to answer my post. Guinea is fine in every other way - so I guess like you said it is probably a genetic thing. All the others from the same clutch were fine and have two wattles - it's just this one - it is a lavender - I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Annex

Hi All,
I am based between Hull & York and due to pregnancy I am looking to rehome my guinea fowl flock. The guinea fowl are mainly lavender in colour with one pearl female guinea fowl, some are lavender and white (pied). They are used to free ranging during the day and going in a hut at night.

I would like them to go to a home where they will be pets and will have a secure free range during the day without threat from fox and then to go in a hut at night.

I will check the number of males and females. I have 15 guinea fowl (although one of these was raised by a hen and so follows the hens around and thinks they are a hen!!!) The other 14 wander around as a flock during the winter and then will regroup in the spring into smaller groups for mating. They vary in ages from 8 years old to 4 years old with one one year old!

Please comment below if you are interested.

I will post pictures of the guinea fowl.

Thanks.

Hi Annier,
I have been keeping guinea fowl since 2004. I have noticed that my guinea's wattles can be different sizes between different birds and one of my guineas has one wattle bigger than the other.
I don't know why this is the case but if they haven't been in a fight and haven't had an illness which has affected their wattle then I assume it's abit like humans with slightly different sized ears (I think one of my ears is slightly bigger but no-one else would notice!) the guinea fowl was probably born with it like this. I'll have a look through the books I have on guinea fowl and see if I can find anything about this. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I hope it's nothing to worry about.
Kind regards

Hi, I have just joined this fab website. I keep and breed Cream Legar Chickens and this year I am going to be breeding the sex-linked Sussex.

I also have a couple of Guinea Fowl and Muscovy ducks.

My question is: One of my Guinea Fowl (and I think it is female) has only one wattle, she is about 7 months old now and I have had her since she was a 4 week old keet. I have only just noticed it - which sounds bad I know, but at first I thought maybe it was lost in a fight, but then I looked at some earlier photos and it appears that there has always been just the one - is this unusual or does it happen a lot? It would be great to hear back from someone :-) Thanks.a

Update on our Big Guinea. She has been isolated so she doesn't make it worse but the isolation/incubation shed door is open so the others go in to visit her and squark through the partition and generally hang out with her. We have treated foot with antiseptic spray, though there is no obvious wound. The foot is still swollen and hot but not as sore. Am sure she has an infection in there. Any ideas? Would a topical antibiotic cream help ?

Hi Helen, well the obvious thing would be that she has something lodged in her foot which has become infected. If the leg is reddened and hot as well as swollen then she may need antibiotics. Have a real close inspection, bathe with an antiseptic and make sure her bedding is clean. You could put her with a friend in a quiet coop but I'm not sure how guineas re-integrate again later.

Our oldest GF- Big Guinea- has had a limp for some time but has recently become much worse. Her foot is swollen and she is clearly finding it difficult to put any weight at all on it. She is still with the others outside. Any advice on :
A. What we should do with her immediately re: ideal homing
B. treatment of the foot.

Hi All,

Chris would like advice about getting guinea fowl used to roosting.

hi we keep poultry and some body abandoned 2 young guinea fowl at our gate ,they feed and are around most of the day but roost very high in the trees,i want to know how to get them used to having a shed to roost in ,ps i have never been able to get close to them in order to catch them. Chris

I free range my guinea fowl during the day and then put them in a hut to roost at night although guinea fowl will naturally roost in trees if you don’t train them to go in a hut. I like mine to go in a hut at night so that they are protected from predators such as the fox and that they are also sheltered from the weather. I use long sticks to drive my guinea fowl in the direction I want then to go. If the sticks get too close to the guinea fowl it spooks them and they fly up into the trees. http://www.farmingfriends.com/how-to-stop-guinea-fowl-straying-onto-the-road/ Long sticks for driving the guinea fowl into a certain area can be helpful, but a word of warning don’t wave the sticks too close to the guinea fowl as this will frighten them and send them flying into the trees.
Feeding them in the hut at the end of the day will help them to return to the hut. After about a week/2 weeks of walking the guinea fowl to their hut they will get used to the routine. Tonight my guinea fowl were all in their hut when I returned home, but this is not always the case sometimes if I leave it too late they will fly up to the roof of the barn or into the trees in the orchard so you have to time getting them in just right.

Thanks for any advice.
Kind regards
