Bald Patch On Mama's Goose's Face

(13 posts)

  1. Hi All,

Mama has asked if I would post this photo.

"I would like advice on the bald patch on Pip's face. It may be that the down has rubbed off as they are feeding from a feeder with metal bars . Pip has it on both sides but Squeak only one side."

Let us know what you think caused it, Mama was wondering if it was the feeder that was the gosling was rubbing against when pecking at food.

    Kind regards

Hi friends, Sorry to have bothered Sara to post this pic but I think the answer has been given. It is the feeder and now have changed to a bowl as advised from some farming friends . Be aware gosling owners that this can happen. The feeder is a chick and duckling one so should have been ok . These are my first goslings so have learnt a little lesson Nice to see a pic of Pip though , hope you enjoy it . Regards Mama

    Hi Mama
Pip is very cute, hope her bald patch is OK soon, she is too young to be losing her feathers, lol.
Was Pip your poorly gosling? I have a bad memory and can't recall now.

    Best Wishes

Hello Lorna, Yes Pip was the poorly one and she is thriving now although much smaller than her sibling. They are starting to feather up and the down has gone from yellow to white . They are looking a bit raggy but both very healthy. Regards Mama

Hi Mama lovely to see Pip. How is Grace and her abcess? Don't we worry about our feathered friends. I now have two quail shuffling but they seem fine otherwise. Original Shuffle has done this since hatching but goodness knows why the other one has started. Nothing obvious to see.
    Best wishes

Sallie, Thank you for asking .Bad news, did not post here as it was too upsetting but we had to put her out of her misery . Things went from bad to worse after visiting the vets and paying a lot of money for ABS . The things she proposed after that were out of our financial range so we had no option .Did our best but not good enough . She was a lovely mum and a lovely goose .I should have let you know as you were so kind . Mama

So sorry to hear, that must have been very upsetting for you, we always do our best for our animals but vets bills can become extremely expensive if you're not careful and sensible. Hope you're OK :(

  11. Dear Mama,
So so sorry to hear about Grace, how awful for you, very saddened by the news.
    Thinking of you.

That's dreadful news, Mama. I am really sorry as I know how much Grace meant to you.
Poor consolation I know but she has left you with a legacy of happy young offspring (Pip is such a survivor!) and of course many happy memories.

    Hi Mama
Sorry to hear your news too, it is not easy to see them suffering, but good that there is something to do to take their suffering away. Best wishes with all the other ones.

    Take care
    Lorna
