Thank you everyone who has given me some advice on the best way to get my drakes in at night. Unfortunately on checking the pond this morning it appears that I have lost one of the drakes over night, will try with the net as suggested, but am thinking that perhaps I should make a platform for my remaining drake to get onto in the pond so that fox ect., cannot pick him off over night. Very upset about this loss, feel really bad, so must try to protect him as best that I can.
Thanks again to everyone who have put forward suggestions.
    Best wishes.
    Sue.

Oh dear sue, that is bad news. Is it the sort of pond you could wade into to shoo him back onto land? My husband had to go in this morning and get my remaining 4 ducklings off our pond, so i know how hard it can be.
Now he has lost his friend, he may be even more frightened and want to stay right out in the middle of the pond.
You could - as you say - put a floating platform in or a floating duckhouse which can be tethered to stakes at the sides of the pond, and you would have to haul it in for cleaning. Having access to a large pond, (which probably has all he can eat in it) makes him self sufficient like a wild mallard, which is why he is not enticed out with offerings of food. He might be enticed by a lady?

    Hi Sue

I am so sorry to hear that one of the drakes is missing, maybe he has just flew off,it is a possibility as call ducks can do that if their wings are not clipped. I thought probably with the pond being large they would be safe enough. I know one of mine flew off at first and he came back home the next day, I do hope that he turns up for you and your other one will be safe.

    Regards
