Hi all! I ve found an egg today, big and heavy, close to the river where wild geese and swans family live. Its autumn now,so is it possible that it is fresh? and is it possible to save the bird and incubate it at home? or if it is dead, is there anyway to figure it? i would really appreciate any advise, thank you.

Hello Sarrah, Don't think it will be a goose egg as the laying season has passed in the UK and Europe. Not sure on swans but it seems late but depends on where you live and the climate . I would think a swans egg is much larger than a goose egg .Don't think there is a way to tell if the egg is viable unless it is fertile and has been sat on for a while . Hope you find a solution . Regards Mama

There is the water test. Large bowl of water, Fresh eggs will sink to the bottom, med fresh will bob on the surface on end and old eggs lay flat on the water surface. Good luck if you incubate . Mama

  5. hi Sarrah, I don't think you should be trying to incubate this egg at all to be honest, if it is a wild swan/goose egg, you have to think how your going to care for it over the winter, then of course what to do with it in the spring, if the egg is a recent lay the bird has abandoned it for a reason x

Mama, thank you a lot for your advise. Today in the morning few drops of water was on the top of the egg, and they smell not good =) so probably the egg is dead, but i will give him a chanse.

m40mo, I totally understand how difficult it is, but we live in the countryside, lots of farms around... Just was not feeling good leaving it there.

Sarrah, Really think it has gone off as some eggs I was hatching did the same and they were rotten. You don't want it to pop in your house !!! Hope your rain has cleared .Mama
