  1. Hi All,

Here are Karen's chicks. They are just one or two days old in this photos.

I am not sure what breed they are but I am sure that Karen will let us know! Are there two breeds?

They are so cute. Karen said they hatched out last weekend.

Thanks for sharing your photo Karen. I love the markings on them.

    Mo,

Like little children, they do grow up way too quickly. But I'm loving it all. It is fun to see the changes even though they are too soon.

My wild bunch are about 6 weeks old now and I heard my first official "Quack" from one of them at their morning visit today. I felt like a mother hearing her child's first word! And just like a little kid, once she did it, she just kept it up like she was proud of her new voice.

Whoever it was that said you can tell the sex by the 'U' shape on the bill was right on this one. I've named her "Quackers".

The black one must be a male as his head is coming in green and he has an iridescent green all about. Not sure about the 'V' on his bill because of the black bill and he never stops moving his head so it's hard to see.

    Blessings to all,
    Dottie

Hi Sara, Thanks for posting this up for me. Promise to try and do it myself next time! The chicks are growing very fast, and have now been moved from our kitchen and are in our garage under the heat lamp. We have a mixture of 6 Marans/ speckled maran chicks, and also what we believe are 3 white sussex chicks, but of varying colours of white to ginger! I am amazed at how their wings/feathers are growing - it's all very interesting and new to me.
Time to go check on them again!
