hello every one, in july my 2year old duck hatched 1 egg, the other egg she was sitting on didnt hactch, the chick had died inside the egg at point of hatch, since then she has not laid any more eggs , is this a normal length of time for no eggs ? we still have the duckling (now adult) could that be the reason ? there is just the three of them the duck, drake and duckling from july ,any ideas ? pat

  2. hello Pat, it does seem a long time without eggs, it could be one of many reasons, what breed is she as not all ducks lay all year, are they closed in a house over night or free ranging where she could be hidding the eggs somewhere, and is she well in herself other wise, if you read some of the other posts on here for some reason some members ducks have been very un regular with laying this autumn late summer
don't know if this helps but sure others will have other thoughts too for you

Hi Patty. I have 4 laying ducks and only one of them seems to be laying perhaps one or two eggs a week, whereas in the summer I was getting one per day from each.
Like you I also had a brood of 12 ducklings hatch in July and the "mother" of those hasn't laid since either. I really don't know what's up with them. In my case I think it's because we have so many ducks now (down to 10 from 18) and there's a fair amount of pushing and shoving in the shed. The irregular weather, hours of darkness and temperature changes are all possible contributing factors so I wouldn't worry as long as everyone is healthy.

Hi Both my lovely female call ducks sat eggs and hatched young in the summer and since then we haven't had an egg from either of them , we assume this is quite normal as both are the same
