I have two campbell whites and the female has become very broody she has started sitting on her eggs and wont let anyone near her apart from her mate and even then he sits outside the house until its bedtime, i was informed that these ducks dont get broody so could someone please tell me how long the eggs take to hatch as shes sitting on two at the moment and only comes out for food and water and a quick swim in the pond

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the farmingfriends forum. The eggs take about 28 days to hatch from the time that she lays the last egg. If you don't want her to continue sitting then take the eggs away when she goes out for food and water and this will eventually deter her.
Let us know if she continues to sit and the eggs hatch out.
Kind regards

Hi Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear this. Maybe you could find someone with a broody hen as hens seem to be quite reliable sitters.
Kind regards

would just like to let u know that my ducks become broody again she has five eggs that shes sitting on so hopefully this time round we will have some ducklings in 21 days i have made sure that everyone stays away from her this time so as not to stress her out too much i will keep you all posted as to what happens

Hi Lisa, thats good news. My white campbells have just done it second time round and we have five lovely healthy ducklings. Mine were disturbed first time round too. They really are over anxious.
You can read all about my experiences on here or contact me if you have any Q's

hi all, fantastic news i have a pair of kahki campbells named penelope and george.i recently did an experiment to see if penny would become clucky by leaving the eggs in there instead of taking them out everyday, so day 11 and there are 11 eggs in the box and she has made an excellent nest around the eggs and has been sitting on them for the last couple of days.so fingers crossed she keeps it up, my question is does anybody know how many hours a day she should be on the eggs, because she sits on them most of the day and all night but she can be off them for an hr or more at a time during the day, is that normal?

Yes it is normal. You will see that she covers them well when she leaves them so they don't lose heat, but I have to say that as it wasn't her instinct to collect the eggs and brood them herself, she may lose interest. You will have to be prepared to continue the brooding with an incubator or a broody hen if she changes her mind.

Can Sara admin or Mod point duckcrazy in the right direction on a new post .New members or old find this confusing and not nice on an old post as Mod said the other day members may not want to be reminded as to what happened as I wouldn't on some of my posts .Best wishes Mama
