I am in the procoss of starting a small farm beginning with some layers, broilers and a couple cows. I want to grass feed them but I have some land that was stripped when a powerline went throught years ago. I was wondering if I should till it and plant a pasture mix or let the animals eat what is good and eventually green it up through natural processes. Any suggestions?

  2. Hi Beginner,
Welcome to the forum. My husband is a farmer and he says it will be much more productive if you put grass and consider a clover mix as nitrogen fertilizer is now very expensive. Need to consider either red clover or white clover but that will depend on the animals you want to graze. Hubby thinks it's white clover for low grazing sheep.
Hope this helps and good luck. Let us know how you get on.
    Kind regards

Hi beginner. Glad Sara has repiled ie pasture . Don't hesitate to ask for further info on broilers and layers later on . Lots of members have kept both as well as ducks and geese. Good luck with your venture . Mama
