Hi everybody, hope you're all okay :-D,
I just have some questions about quail eggs...
Is it true that you cannot eat the eggs if the birds have eaten medicated feed? and what price to japanese quail eggs generally sell for, say at a farmers market? I have surplus, so thought I might as well sell them.
    Thanks for any replies!

  2. Hi Jane,
I am not sure about the answer on the medicated feed. Can you tell us the brand of feed you give them as this may help.
I give my quail Smallholder layers pellets and we eat the eggs.
I have sold my quail eggs at farmers markets for £2.50 for 12 eggs. I sell them to friends and neighbours for £2.00.
I know they retail in shops for about £2.75 - £2.90.
Last time I checked with the egg marketing board you need to put on best before. I usually put 21/2 weeks on quail eggs from time of lay and you need to put on where the eggs were produced.
    Hope this helps.
    Kind regards

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for the reply. I use Dodson and Horrell Layer Pellets. It says they are GM free ingredients and Vegetarian Society Approved...
How do I put on the best before date? Just write it on a bit of paper, or actually put it on the egg?
Thanls for the prices, I will do the same as you.
    Thanks a lot!!

    Hi Sara

*I give my quail Smallholder layers pellets* Where do you buy your pellets from?

I was wondering about the same question asked about quail eggs CPQ, do the same things apply re selling them, i have been giving them away and Geordie the Spoilt rotten Dally gets them scrambled so was thinking about the selling side of them, for eating and incubating purposes?

As soon as the Californian Quail start laying i want to incubate, raise and sell the babies on.

I found that my quails like the game bird feed mix. Also I give them plenty of lettuce and broccoli. If you give them just about anything cut up into small pieces they will consume it.
