Broody quail/ aggression problems?

    Hi everyone,
Yet again, I'm having troubles with my quail :-/
As some of you may remember/ from previous posts, I had problems with 1 quail, and then all the others, picking on one of the males. At that time, I thought it was one particular female.
Well, I have recently put him back in with the others. For about 2 and a half months, they have been fine. There is one male (the one that was picked on a while back) and 5 females.
But just now, I went out and there was a female chasing him around. I am 99% sure it is the same female from ages ago.
BUT I've just found what appears to be a nest in the bed area. There are about 10 eggs in it. I separated the female in here, and just now she was sitting on the nest, and when I sprinkled meal worms she didn't get up.
    What I'm wondering is:
Will the male and female ever get along?
    Is she nesting?
Why has she suddenly started picking on the male again- just randomly?

    Thanks everyone!

  4. Hi Jane,
Does sound like she has gone broody which is great as quail are hard to get to sit, so make the most of it. She may have been chasing the male around because maybe he was trying to give her too much attention and attention when she wanted to sit on her nest and he was disturbing her.
I was given a female with a poorly leg and she isn't as quick as some of the others and she will start to quietly squawk away if any of the males try to come towards her and try to mate with her when she doesn't want them to. Even though she isn't as nimble as some of the others she doesn't give in and makes her point known so maybe the female was having a go back.
I would definately keep the others away from her whilst she is on the nest and when the chicks hatch as the others could attack them.
    Good luck.
    Kind regards

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for the reply. She has never shown any signs before. Also, for the last couple of days, there have been no signs of intensive sitting- like she's doing now. Will the eggs still be okay/ hatch?
Is there anything that could make her stop sitting? And is there anything I should/ shouldn't be doing? Just the normal stuff like grit, veg etc?
    I am so excited!!
    Thanks again everyone

  6. Hi Jane,
Just wondered how your quail is getting on? Make sure she has access to food and water and make sure the others won't disturb her as this could bring her off the nest.
    Fingers crossed for the eggs.
    Best Wishes

    Hi Sara,
All seems to be good here. I have partitioned her off so she has the nest, which is enclosed, as well as an exercise area, with food, water and a dirt bath.
Have estimated the hatch date to be around the 14th. (I'm so excited!!)
I read about your guinea fowl keet- congratulations!
I was wondering, when (if, hopefully!) they hatch, will I need to bring them inside with a heat lamp etc, or will they be alright outside with mum?
    Good luck on your hatching!
