Hi. My son bought a male and 2 femail Japanese Quails a few months ago. He put 12 eggs into an incubator 17 days ago and about an hour ago one of the eggs hatched.
He has arranged for someone to swap the cock bird (and any male offspring) from us once the young are old enough to join the adults, which brings me to my question. At what age will I be able to introduce the young birds(hoping that there will be more successful hatchlings!)?

Hi Philippa,
Well done on getting a quail chick, hope the hatching is going ok.
You will have to see how the male and females react to the chicks. The quail will be mature at 6 weeks though, so they can be mixed then if not before.
Looking forward to hearing more about the quail and the the chicks.
Kind regards

Hi
We now have 10 chicks! They are brilliant. My son converted a plastic toy box into a brooder for them by adding a red light and air holes. They seem to be very happy.
We had one hatch that seemed very droopy and it's head hung and eyes shut well after the others were up and running around. Having read one of your posts I left it in the incubator longer then the others (who had been climbing all over it) and gave it sugar water. He seems fine now.
Many thanksPhilippa
