    Hello!
I was wondering how one would go about introducing another duck to ones current flock. I have a flock of 7 ducks, 2 Black Indian Runners, 2 White Pekings, 1 Male Mallard and 2 Blue Swedes. They are all about 4 months old, so pretty young.
A friend of my grandmother's cannot care for her young female Mallard anymore and is giving her to me. I will be getting the lil gal Friday, but I haven't the foggiest idea of how to introduce her to my flock and how to get them to accept her. How in the world do I go about integrating her to my current flock? They are a very tight knit flock and they have full command of my 3 acres.
Any advice/help/tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi Jordy,
Can you put her in a pen so they can all see one another? If one or more ducks or the mallard hangs around, then that may be enough to bond. In which case you could let the other in with her.
She will take a good 3 days or more to get used to her surroundings before she can relax, so give her time. They are always quieter in the dark so you will have to play it by ear at night time. Are you borrowing her coop too?

    Campbell,
I have a nice fenced in area around the Duck house we built, so I will just put her in there with everyone under supervision and let her sleep separate for a few nights. This duck used to sleep inside a human house at night, so I am afraid she will have a bit of a shock.
    Thank you for the advice!
