  1. Hi All,
Ruby has sent me some photos of her lovely ducks to see if anyone can help with identifying the gender.

Ruby said, "Well when they were younger I couldn't tell the difference in the two if I had a male or female or two of the the same, now that they are grown I only see small differences but... Yesterday one did lay her first egg and today there was one more so I am thinking I might just have a male and female and wanted to post a couple pics and see if anyone had any thoughts, if one is a male I am going to leave the eggs out there for her if not I need to bring them in.
    Thanks so very much!"

Thanks for sharing these photos Ruby. I will have a proper look and let you know what I think about gender.

    Best Wishes

awwww so you do think there are both girls... dang it lol I was thinking since only one of them is laying......But at the same time I didn't see much of a difference in the two so i was also thinking maybe two girls..

And thanks for posting my pictures for me Love the input from everyone!! ♥

They definatly look like two girls, lucky you, im sure if you want a boy you will be able to pick up one for free as people usually have too many boys.

looks like two females, just keep your eye on the one with the darker head, which will start to turn greenish if its a male. they also make different sounds.
Hold off getting a male til you are 100% sure.
Collect all the eggs anyway as she will not sit on a nest this young,
They always make a nest first, not the other way round.

Thanks so much for all of your input! I most of the time think both girls too, but I just don't know for sure so that's why I asked Sara to post the pics for me. So far its two ducks, day three(of egg laying) and three eggs. I put a pile of straw in a wooden box and the last two days the eggs were in the box almost covered by the straw so they just keep doing things to confuse me! lol

  9. they will hide the eggs but as khaki campbells they are unlikely to sit and hatch them, they will do this as instinct weather there is a male who has fertalised them or not, but if you have 3 eggs its hard to say if only one is laying or both, I would remove all the sggs and if one morning you go in and there are 2 eggs you will know for sure, they are also young and its getting late in the year so even if you have a male and female its not wise to have ducklings yet anyway x
sorry just seen where you live maybe its spring with you not sure but its still not adviced to let such young ducks have ducklings x

Ok that is what I will do, makes great sense! I will go remove the three eggs now and see what happens tomorrow lol. And yes we are only about 2 months from winter and I, if they were fertilized would want spring ducklings and them to be older so Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is why I LOVE this site!!

Well you guys, you were all right! After only one egg the last 6 mornings today there were 2 eggs in their box so... no more questions of sex, lol I appreciate all of you who have been giving me input and so for now I will just have plenty of eggs, and in the Spring I sure would like to plan on getting a male for some ducklings :-)

    Thanks again!! :-)

    Hello Ruby,
The ducks in the pics are beautiful, good that they are females. It is a good idea to bring in an unrelated drake.
