Pekin duck eggs are they fertile?

(4 posts)

  1. Hi All,

    Heather has pekin ducks.

I have pekin ducks my female has layed 3 eggs so far,the first one we broke open to see if it was fertile, we were told if there is a black dot in the middle its fertile, there wasnt one so we have washed the others off and put them in the refridgerator. When I had candled them I didn't see anything but an air pocket,do you have any suggestions,I'm trying to learn as i go along,my ducks was born 4 days before Easter. Heather.

    Hi Heather,
Where in the world are you located? If you are in the UK and heading towards autumn then your eggs may not be fertile until next Spring as your ducks and drake are quite young they may not be mature enough yet. How long have they been laying? Sometimes you have to wait a few weeks before the eggs become fertile.
    kind regards

    Hi Heather,
I dont know about this black dot but the way I see if they are fertile, you crack one open and on the yolk there is a little white circle, there is a post on FF with piccie which is where I learned it from.

  3. I think the question has to be, why does Heather want to know, if she wants ducklings yes best wait until the ducks are older and its spring /summer like you say Sara if she is wondering if they are edible if they are fertile then yes they are,

Did you know!!!! Fertile eggs contain significantly less cholesterol than unfertile ones!
