    Hi All

My Pekin has hatched a chick today. I know its not the best time of year but she is very pleased with herself after trying all summer.

She is normally housed with 2 other hens and a cockerel. Do I leave the chick with her and them? Bring the chick in under a light to keep warm and if so would that reduce it being accepted by the rest? or finally split mummy and baby away from the rest?

    Advice gratefully received

    Hi there

So sorry to hear you lost the chick - this could have been due to the other hens or the cockeral.

I would try and seperate the broody and the new chick from the others as Mama suggested.

we did this in the summer, and introduced the broody back with the others when the chicks were about 6-8 weeks old. the chicks were then left out with the others a few weeks after that as they were more able to protect themselves.

    Good luck!
