Our oldest GF- Big Guinea- has had a limp for some time but has recently become much worse. Her foot is swollen and she is clearly finding it difficult to put any weight at all on it. She is still with the others outside. Any advice on :
    A. What we should do with her immediately re: ideal homing
    B. treatment of the foot.

Would be really appreciated as she is a valued member of our fowl community.

    Thank you. Helen

Hi Helen, well the obvious thing would be that she has something lodged in her foot which has become infected. If the leg is reddened and hot as well as swollen then she may need antibiotics. Have a real close inspection, bathe with an antiseptic and make sure her bedding is clean. You could put her with a friend in a quiet coop but I'm not sure how guineas re-integrate again later.

Hi Sarah thanks, she is isolated and no obvious wound or thorn. Just swollen and painful. Will bathe in antiseptic solution though any further thoughts much appreciated.

Update on our Big Guinea. She has been isolated so she doesn't make it worse but the isolation/incubation shed door is open so the others go in to visit her and squark through the partition and generally hang out with her. We have treated foot with antiseptic spray, though there is no obvious wound. The foot is still swollen and hot but not as sore. Am sure she has an infection in there. Any ideas? Would a topical antibiotic cream help ?
