    Hi Vicky

Welcome to the site! I have 4 khaki campbells and 15 hens. Duck eggs make the best scrambled egg ever! Am sure you will find out the info you need for incubating, and there are plenty of members who will be able to help you along your way!

    nice 'meeting' you...

    Welcome Vicky!

You have come to the right place. You can spend a lot of time reading through the posts on this forum and most likely will get answers to all of your questions, as well as questions that you didn't even know you had.

This is a wonderful and informative group here and discovered it when I moved to a house across from a lake and had questions about all the ducks that would come and spend time in my yard.

There are about 10 or so 'feral' farm ducks that live on the lake, that visit me- as well as wild mallards that come with them. I also have three ducks that I have adopted from the lake, that I keep in my enclosed back yard as pets. One is a Cayuga female (Daphne) that showed up one day under one of my bushes and a Black East Indian male (Indie) that appeared about two weeks after that. Both were friendly and I am guessing -either got loose from somewhere or were dumped on the lake. My third is a Swedish female (Lucky) that began as a duckling that was left in my yard by one of the grown ducks at the very end of last summer. I hand raised her inside until she was big enough to keep outside with the other two.

I just started getting eggs from my two girls and have discovered that duck eggs scrambled and as omelets are awesome!

    Wishing you all the best,
    Dottie

Hi Victoria. You do know that duck eggs take 28 days not 21 days like chickens and they need extra moisture? I am sure you have done your homework but didn't want you to be disappointed after 21 days

Hi Victoria, I'm new here myself. So welcome.

Ducks are addictive so I'm sure that you'll have fun. Don't worry about racing to your friends to see them hatch, with 12 eggs they can take up to 24 hours from 1st hatch to last so you'll probably get there in time. As Campbell says, duck eggs do need more moisture to hatch than chicken eggs but it sounds as though your friend has plenty of experience so do have fun.

I made the mistake of keeping my 1st ducklings in the spare room but they can smell,no matter how clean you keep it, and it took months to get rid of the smell after they had moved out!!!

    No holidays, too many birds.

  18. Hi Victoria, shame you missed the hatch hope you get to at least see one hatch, been and looked at your photo so cute have to ask though whats on the floor of the brooder as it looks like a fine mesh cloth with holes and i'd be a bit concerned at them catching a claw in it

Sara can send you a code how to put photos on here so look forward to seeing more pics soon :)
