    HI Everyone

As a total beginner on hatching hen eggs, 2 of the eggs have pipped around lunchtime today and no movement since, although I can hear chirping. I know with guinea fowl you can help them after 6 hours what is the time frame for these hen eggs?
    THANKS

  2. Hi Gill,
I think that books generally say not to interfer with any chicks whether they are guinea fowl, ducklings, quail or hens but as I have said I have helped guinea fowl and ducklings both successfully. I have not hatched any hen chicks as I don't have a cockerel, so I don't have any experience of this myself.
It's a difficult one because if you help out too soon then they may not have absorbed their yolk sac and this can make them weak. But then if you don't help them as it's night time then they may not have hatched out in the morning. I am sorry not to be more helpful. You may have to go with a gut feeling.
Hope it all works out well and that they hatch successfully.
    Kind regards

  4. Hi Gill,
Hope all chicks are well. I try to leave them in the incubator for up to 24 hours. I find if I move a freshly hatched chick to the brooder too soon they don't always do very well.
It's always hard knowing what to do for the best.
    Hope all well.
    Kind regards
