This is surely a stupid question but I'm new to hatching ducklings. I helped 3 Indian Runners hatch today but their bottoms are still firmly stuck in the shell. Is this normal? I don't want to pull it off for fear that I'll harm them. Thank you!

Duckling bottoms still in shells

No - do not pull it off as they may bleed if they are still attached by the yolk sac. The yolk sac will be attached at the front on their tums and is their food source. It will gradually drop off or dry up. However if you are sure it is on the backside/tail of the ducklings you can moisten the shell and gradually take off a little at a time. Do not saturate them as they will chill.
