Hey there Jai, i have silver phoenix bantams in with my quial, the chicken are the same size as the quail, chicken are more agressive than quial ive noticed, but they all get along together, it depends on how big of a chicken you are getting and how big of a space u can provide for them, roosters will fight the quail they dont back away, they are not "chicken", but right now they are fine they've been together for about a week now if u get big chicken i wouldnt suggest it because i think they would kill ur quail

  3. Hi Jai,
I am not sure if you can mix quail with hens. I have read that it isn't a good idea to house quail with hens as you can loose your quail to illnesses passed on by the hens. I am not sure if this is true. I do not keep my quail with other poultry.
Maybe a call to a vet may help answer the question. I have asked on twitter. http://twitter.com/farmingfriends

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for letting us know that you keep your quail with your silver phoenix bantams. Male quail are quite agressive and so I would say that they shouldn't be mixed with cockerels/roosters. I kleep guinea fowl and hens together but although I have male guinea fowl in with the hens I don't have a cockerel as the male guinea fowl and cockerel would fight. I do keep a drake and his 6 ducks in with the guinea fowl and the drake just keeps out of the male guinea fowl's way and will jab at the guinea fowl if they look like threatening him!
    Kind regards

  5. Hi Chris,
Yes you are right cockerels are aggressive as are male quail and as you say the cockerel will probably win in a fight between cockerel and male quail. My hens are fine with my male guinea fowl and drake. The hens peck at the others and run towards them as if trying to barge them out the way if they feel threatened.
I am glad that your hen and cockerel and quail are getting on. The cockerel may not bother the quail as he has his own hen so doesn't feel threatened.

Do you feed your quail mealworms, and shredded lettuce. Offering them food like this will help them to feel comfortable with you. When I go into my quail barn the quail start running towards me when they see I have some greens or meal worms!

I have noticed that quail are more skittish if I wear a red top. they don't get frightened of me any other time, just if I am wearing red!

    Kind regards

  7. Hi Chris,
Yes it is interesting to hear about the behaviour of quail. Do you have any photos of your bobwhite and california quail that you would like to share, if so I can send you my email to send them and I can upload them onto the forum.
    Kind regards
