Lice in chicken coop

(2 posts)

  1. Hi there, hoping someone can advise me on the best way to rid our flock of a lice infestation? The hens are looking happy and their combs are still bright red and egg production hasn't changed. I spotted tiny dots crawling on an egg as I was collecting them yesterday, after researching online I've decided it's lice and not mites as they say you can only see mites under a microscope? We clean out the coop and change the bedding once a week and the bedding we use is straw but this has never caused problems before. We were planning on blowtorching the coop to get rid of them and putting some kind of a dust in their dustbaths but what treatment is best to put directly onto our birds and where can we get it? And will we have to discard the eggs for long?

Thanks for any advice you can give x
