Hi all. Today we picked up two new female ducks - yet to be named, just under a year old. One is a white campbell x and the other looks mallard but is the same size and they are sisters - they do not fly!
They were rather muddy when we brought them home and immediately headed for the bath and stayed in for most of the afternoon. They met the others and there were a few tussles with the boys but I expect things will settle down over the next few days as they get to know each other. They have all gone nicely into the shed together so we will see how they fare tomorrow.
Regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
Sounds like a farely easy settling in. Nice to hear they don't fly!
Hope all your ducks will mix well in the coming days.
Have a good weekend.
Just to let you know that little Princess is doing really well. Day 4 of medication. she hisses when we open the enclosure lid but then she comes out well and is held by hubby. She opens mouth fine and seems to know what is happening and doesn't resist. I think that she knows it's making her better. she is sitting down properly now and her droppings have returned to normal. Only 6 more days of medication!
Best Wishes

Glad to hear little Princess is doing well, taking her to the vet was the best idea wasn't it?
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Just to let you know, we returned the mallard as she was monopolising the pools and not letting the white one integrate with our flock. She used to call her back when she wandered over to join them and dominated her all the time. She also head down and charged at them when they came near. We have named our new permanent resident - Fattie Mattie (Fatima or Matilda) She has an enormous overstretched crop by the end of the day! She has settled in well and has started laying, so we are now getting 4 eggs a day. We will have to start selling them I think! So we now have 2M and 4F.
Unfortunately Gordon now has a sore foot. He has a couple of soft swellings on the sole and the skin is cracked and dry looking. We have penned him in to try and rest it and will keep checking every day.
Regards to all

Poor Gordon, I hope he gets better soon. Nice to hear you're getting eggs from Fattie Mattie, 4 a day soon builds up doesn't it. We get 4 nearly every day, with just the odd 3 now and then. I sell some of mine to colleagues at work and also give them away to friends and relatives. I've never eaten so many eggs before!!

Hi Sarah,
Sorry to hear that the mallard was monopolising things and had to go back!
Love the name of your new duck. Sorry to hear Gorden has a sore foot. Rest is good as you are giving him. Wow four eggs a day! A couple of my ducks are moulting at the moment so only a few eggs, just when people are beginning to incubate them!!Rachel - Little Princess is doing really well. You would never know that she had been ill. The vet was great.
My ducks have recently discovered a ditch running at the bottom of the orchard and they are enjoying swimming up and down it and dabbling in the water and the waters edge!
Best Wishes
