We are getting 4 eggs a day currently since the end of Jan one of them has a distinctly 'sooty' coating which cleans off with a damp cloth.
Thought this may be a throw back to a duck we had who was half cayuga, must be from one of her duaghters. Is this the only breed which lays this colour?

  2. if it wipes off to reveal a normal white egg could it just be an excess of the wax coating that duck eggs have x

Since read that black runners can lay this type of egg initially so it may stop after a while.
7 eggs this morning the girls are doing well!

  4. ah forgot you had runners, there you go then mystery solved just the wax coating so yes should settle down once she's in a good routine,
They are funny arn't they I always know if one of my girls has had more than her fare share of spinach as the eggs have green spots on them which thankfully wipes off as they don't look to good lol
