Ok! I was cleaning out hens yesterday & found spots of blood on perch & walls! I have found this before last year I think but cleaned & sprayed & had no more! Sprayed all over with poultry shield which I do each clean out but again this morning there are blood spots! What do I need to do now?

  2. Hi Yan,
Can you see any pepper like marks under the perches or in the corners as this indicates red mite.
What are you using as bedding could there be something in that?
    Hope you get sorted soon.
I remember when I first started to keep hens and had two white leghorns Hettie and Hattie and I popped my head into their hut to get the eggs and I got more than I bargained for as I ended up with hair full of black mites, still makes me shiver just thining about it!!!! The joys of poultry keeping!
    Best Wishes

    Hi everyone
Sorry for delay in getting back. Just trying to deal with another disaster!
I think you ate all correct! I was going to post earlier to say that I didnt think it was either! No ash like dust z& no sign of any mites Sara.
Mo you might have something! (thanks for links both you & Mama.) the blood is like they've shaken & it's sprayed on the wall & door. I've checked all the chicks & they all seem fine. I puffed the powder a couple of days ago & the blood stopped. I don't think it had anything to do with that but maybe an injury that one of them had! Certainly all well again. It's strange because I had a wee bout of this last year which just resolved!
