Sticky Eye on Buff Duckling

(8 posts)

  1. Hi All,
Worried about the young buff duckling, been out all day and got back at 4pm to find young buff with a closed up eye. Her nostrils are abit runny and last night she did look slightly puffed up under one eye. Have bathed eye. Hoping it's not mycoplasma, could be sticky eye. Hope the eye is better in the morning. Have spent about 3 hours sitting in the aviary to make sure the duckling is ok! She is feeding and drinking and preening ok.
Last night when I went out to check on the ducklings I could hear one of the ducklings breathing nasally!
    Any advice!

Oh dear, just what you need.
Plenty of time in some fresh water tomorrow will help clear her nasal passages. She may have an allergy to some particles in your straw or inhaled some dust. she has been used to living indoors hasnt she?

  3. Hi Sarah,
I bathed the eye last night and at 10.30pm the eye was shut. Am pleased to say the eye is open this morning, what a relief. The ducklings have a tray of water as well as their drinker. Will get a new bucket when go to farm supplies later this morning!
    Thanks

  8. Hi All,
Well have got a bucket from farm supplies, just need a spell checker!!!!!!
Thanks Mama for pointing this out to me. Note to self - proof read what I've typed especially if writing about ducks or ducklings!!! The keypad is that well used that the letter have rubbed off and it doesn't help that the d and f are so close together!!
Sorry hope I didn't offend anyone.
