keep him warm and feed him up. try him back with grace and as long as she is not the cause she will keep him warm. But if she rejects him it will have been her that caused the injury because she thinks hes frail. you will have to try and rear him yourself.

Sarah , got him on a hot water bottle and in a thermal hood from hubbys jacket. He has had a few drops of sugar water.the wound on his head is a skin tear but don't know if it has damaged his eye. Shall I keep bathing the wound. He was not moving when we found him but is wriggling a bit now.Thnaks Mama x

You have cleaned the wound now let it dry and heal. Get him eating too. chick crumb, flies, chopped worm etc. it will give him strength. Make sure he is not TOO warm! Your body heat will do the trick. I nursed my late hatch duckling in my T shirt/chest area for a couple of hours when i found her cold and lonely in the hut. Once she had gained strength she rejoined the others.

Hi All, Pip has spent the afternoon in my bra, thanks to Sarah L. Do hope she wasn't winding me up cos it worked. He is much quieter but still cheeps a fair bit. He has some water every hour but only drops. He won't eat any thing yet. I am hoping for Grace to come off the nest so that I can put him back. Squeak looks fine , took a look at lunch time. Squeak has just had a poooo!!!!Regards Mama.

Hi Mama, of course it worked!
Pip is cheeping for his Mum, hoping she will reply. Have you tried putting him back with her yet? Put him right next to her and see what she does. She should respond to his calls and she should raise up a little and let him under her wing......

Not Good , Went to check before going to bed and Pip was laid once again on the floor on her back kicking and shouting. I think Grace knows something I don't.Put Pip back under Grace now it is dark . It has been a long hard day and I do not want to wake up tomorrow with a dead gosling. I know nature has to take its course but. If it goes the same tomorrow I shall have to intervene again but there is so much happening here as usual, I don't know if I am capable of saving the babe .I will do my best but sometimes that is not good enough as you know . Oh dear thats not good... I think if shes going to stand any chance then you might have to remove her and put her in a brooder (or hot water bottle etc) and see if she survives the night. It sounds like Grace has kicked her out again.........
sorry its not better news, see what tomorrow brings

that is such good news! He stands a good chance now Grace has nursed him through the night. xxx if you look at my photo of the ducks at night you will see my tiny one who was hatched two days later, she was very wobbly to start with and was left out cold and damp. She couldnt keep up til day 3 then she was one of the gang! :)

Hi All, All doing well at the moment. Grace has not attempted to bring the babies out so she may know Pip is not quite strong enough. Squeak has had grated courgette and shredded lettuce and a walk in the water bowl . Pip is still under mum but has had a very wobbly walk. Will she be ok left to mum or should I try and get her to eat and drink .Looking At Sarah's pics hers were swimming by day 4.
Thanks for all your well wishes . Mama

If it were me i would feed Pip some wet chick crumb and tiny bits of shredded green. Once you drop water on their beak they will open and drink it so pop small amount of wet food in and se if she can swallow ok. Put the food and water as near as possible. She will find it difficult to walk on all that straw. Give her a day of top ups. She will get stronger once she can use her legs better so if they are now waterproof she may be able to swim later today.

Hi Mama, Only just logged on. Sorry about Pip hope all well. They aren't the most comfortable things to have in a bra but this is just one of the ways we are better than men!! All round heat is just the thing. I have had puppies there before! Good luck.

  27. Hi Mama,
Just been reading all the updates about Pip and Squeak as I was away yesterday at mum and dad's 40th wedding anniversary!
Anyway glad that Pip is getting strong and Grace has taken him. Squeak is doing really well by the sounds of it and will hopefully help to bring Pip on when he is strong enough!
    Relieved to hear all ok.
    Best Wishes
