Hi All. Things are not looking good for Pip. Have fed her through out the day but everytime I go and check she is laid on her back and yelling . I think she may be blind as she has no idea where to go for food or drink like the sibling or to get to mum. Grace just looks at her bemused .Don't think I am going to win this one , just thought I would let you know .Sad Mama.

Oh dear that isnt good at all. So sorry to hear it after all your efforts. She should be eating and drinking by now if things were normal.
And of course bouncing around like squeak.
We'll be thinking of you and hoping theres a miraculous improvement tomorrow.

Thanks Sarah, Just been to check and Pip was staring at the wall no were near mum. Gave her a drink but do fear the worst. Hate to give up but don't know what else I can do. Do not want to prolong any discomfort for Pip but hubby has said if something needs doing , he will do it .Can not bear to see her suffer . Mama x

oh dear this was sad to read this morning, not sure what your going to do, it maybe that pip is not blind but just has no oriantation skills due to the head injury, if it were me and you know i have no experiance, i think for now i would keep feeding her and see if things improve as she gets stronger
thinking of you and hopeing for good news today x

Hi Mama, sometimes we have to accept that mum knows best. Grace probably pusher her out as she knew there was a problem. Have had this with lambs before, tried to supplement as mum rejected but you normally find a problem down the line that mean't you had a wasted effort. Probably best to let your husband put her out of her misery then you can start to enjoy the healthy one and Grace!
Sorry,
best wishes

oh Sallie not sure i agree with you on this one, Mama has reported on facebook that the gosling is under her care and now eating and bathing, I think where theres life theres hope as long as there is no obvious signs of suffering, rejection surly isnt always a sign of no hope

So Sorry I have not been posting but know you will all understand. Pip has had a slightly better day. One hourly feeds and she has taken a little on her own. now in our bedroom in her box with a tiny duvet to keep her warm. hope she sleeps well as I really need to. Thank you all for your words of comfort and especially to sarah L who has kept us going the last few days on facebook. If I thought she was in pain that would be the end of it,we would have to take her to the vet. we made a decision to try and save her.love to you all Mama

Dear Mama,
Wasn't around yesterday so just caught up. Hoping Pip is ok, what a hard decision.
I hand reared a piglet, Splays who was very small and had splayed legs to begin with and his legs sorted themselves out and he grew well, so that was a success story.
Fingers crossed for Pip. Hope you ok as well.
Best Wishes

Hello Friends , Firstly Pip has had good nights sleep with a warm hot water bottle in a box in our bedroom. She woke at 5am for food. She is now half feeding herself and I am feeding her from my finger. She is pecking at everything . She is much steadier on her feet and now on antibiotics. Grace needs an op to scrape out the abscess and is also on antibiotics. Waiting for an estimate of cost for the op .The cost for this mornings visit was 66 euro's. If that was it, all would be ok but am concerned about the future cost with no guarantee . regards to all. Mama

great news about pip, hope all works out for Grace and her foot x
Mo xxmo xPosted 2 years ago # -
My goodness, that sounds very expensive for a consult and antibiotics! Could you try some other vets to see what they charge for the lancing op?
SSarah LPosted 2 years ago # -
Hi Sarah, Prices seem to be fixed here , even in the shops. One lot of antibiotics cost 37 euro' as it had the price ticket on .The vet said she would put grace to sleep for the op as it would take a lot of careful work on it. I don't think any of the vets really do much fowl care as the french in general would just kill an ailing bird. They are not very kind to the rest of their animals either unless it is a lap dog!! Regards Mama
PS, Bluducati. What did you think was wrong with your cockerel ? Just interested to know.Goose GirlPosted 2 years ago # -
Hi my cockerel had vent gleet, I Just Googled sore and crusty butt in my cockerel!! and got a few things that it could be up, was told to try some cream from the pharmacy for Athlete's foot [Daktarin Aktiv cream] it cleared up in no time we was so worried he had passed it on to the girls but thankfully they are all OK,
our vets fee was £14-00.
we decided to give him that chance, but after two weeks off me washing his butt every day and putting on spray we got from Mole Valley Farmers; and not getting a great deal better I thought I would try and find out what it could be my self.Thankfully it did work hope pip makes it,
