Duck Chased By Dog

  1. Hi All,
My friend called round this afternoon with a dog she is looking after. The dog was on the lead and we let the dog, Alfie off the lead whilst we were chatting in the caravan and he was sitting with us and then went outside for an explore and before we knew it he had found some of the ducks and hens. She dashed round and I could see Alfie leaning over a brown body.

"Oh no, it's Little Princess and she's dead!" I thought.
Thankfully she wasn't dead only playing dead. It was amazing to see, although I am sure that's not what Little Princess was thinking! Probably her thoughts were, " Get this bleep, bleep dog off me!"

We got hold of Alfie and then he escaped again and chased Little Princess and she just bobbed down low to the ground with her neck stretched out as if she was dead.

We managed to catch the dog, although he chased some guinea fowl and a hen, but the hen went and hid in the nettles and the guinea fowl flew up into the apple tree and on top of the barn.

Interesting to see how the different birds react.

All birds are fine now. I was worried about Little Princess as she disappeared and I thought she would be hiding but when I went to round all the birds up she was with all the ducks nibbling the grass in the neighbouring field as if nothing had happened!!!

    Hope tomorrow is less eventful!

Worst nightmare, Dogs are lovely but not when chasing our birds. Happens here with hunt dogs and I get very cross as they are just roaming , owners no were in sight .We lost two chucks last year because of them .Not the dogs fault . Mama

    Hi Sara

Glad to hear Princess is OK.

I have got Jonathan the drake and he is causing terrible trouble for my oldest ducks. I have had to put him in a few times. I am counting down the days until he calms down, usually he stops mating by now, about the 1st of August. Pity there was no tips in dealing with mad old drakes. I often say he is 80 yrs old going on 25. I do not know where he gets the strength and energy!!
