Quail eggs incubated by mother

    Hi everyone,
I was just wondering about eggs being incubated by the hens...
One of my quails is laying eggs, all in the same place. I have 4 there now. The space is sheltered but I do not know if they are being sat on, so is there any way I can tell? Also, if they are being sat on, and I take them out, will there be any effect on her?
Is there any way I can encourage them to lay on the eggs themselves?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Hi Jane, Quail are terrible mothers normally. I have one that seems to want to go broody but I just keep taking the eggs. If you do have a broody quail then it is really too late this year for her to raise a brood as the bad weather will knock the babies off in no time. Just take the eggs away and possibly try in the spring if the quail is still interested.
    Sallie.
