Hi, a wild pigeon couple (or rather city pigeon couple) made a nest on our fire escape and laid 2 eggs. Today I noticed there is only 1 egg in the nest :( :( :(. There has been a large raven that I've spotted on our fire escape a couple times recently...do you think the raven ate it?
The egg sitters (both mom and dad on a rotation, as I understand) go and leave the nest a few times a day...perhaps just to stretch their wings or grab a bite to eat? Do you think it'd be helpful (or harmful?) to leave some bread crumbs for them...perhaps then they'd stay on the remaining egg and leave less time for it to be out in the open?

I have a pet pair pigeons in captivity and layed 2 eggs. The female sits on them for just 2 days only and don't want to hatch them anymore, so i got the eggs and placed them under a lamp. the light capacity of the bulb is 20 watts. Is that right?

Hi Chappy,
The pigeon eggs won't spoil if the pigeons don't sit on the eggs for the first few days. When birds lay their eggs they will lay one a day until they have a clutch of eggs and then the pigeon will sit on the eggs. It is only at the point of sitting on the eggs when the conditions are right that incubation will start. So the egg laid on the first day will still hatch at the same time as the egg laid on subsequent days!
Hope this helps. Good luck with the hatch.
Let me know how your pigeons get on. Are they wild pigeons or do you keep pigeons?
Kind regards
Sara @ farmingfriends
