Quail Hatching

The quail eggs started to hatch out yesterday and today we have 16 which have steadily hatched out since teatime yesterday.

This evening we transferred 16 quail chicks to the brooder and as promised here are a couple of photos of the quail chicks.

A couple more eggs have pipped in the incubator so there may be more quail chicks to come. I’ll let you know what the final chick count is!

We have ‘wild’ quail living in our neighborhood, and one spring my daughter(then 10) and I saw some babies running across the veggie garden, they were the size of little fluffy golf balls! One fell into a cinderblock, and couldn’t get out, so we gently got it out and sent it on it’s way (we could hear the mother in a nearby bush, calling out an alarm)

What a great comment you have left me on this visit. Thanks. I was interested to hear about the mother calling for the chick and the size of the chicks. Our when they were born had bodies the size of bumble bees!
