I have read on the poultrysite that,”Adult quail will live and produce successfully if they are allowed 145 cm² of floor space per bird (125 cm² per bird on wire floors). A cage 13 × 20 cm is large enough for two birds.”
Quail are often kept in aviaries with at least 4ft by 3ft of floor space.
Quail are sometimes kept in cages.
I currently keep some quail in an aviary and some in a barn. Both are free to fly within the aviary or barn. The aviary has sawdust or straw or a mixture of both on the floor and the barn has a sandy soil floor which I place straw in so that the quail can make nests on the ground to lay their eggs. My quail are not kept in cages.
