Record Number Of Guinea Fowl Eggs Found – Part 2
Managed to collect 9 guinea fowl eggs today (previous record is eight) all laid between 11.30am and 1pm. There may have been more as I saw a magpie beat a hasty retreat as I approached for my first round of egg hunting for the day at 11.30 this morning.
I had found the nest site a few days earlier and as I was cleaning out the poultry hut this morning all the guinea fowl started to congregate around this nest site. I decided to stay close to the site and busy myself so that when a guinea hen left the nest, I could go in and swipe the eggs.
Some might say (that is the guinea fowl might say!) that I am no better than the magpies that I am competing with, but I have decided to make a nest in the poultry hut and see if Hatty The Hen or any of the guinea fowl will sit on the eggs. I will keep you posted in the next few days, to let you know if any of the hens have become broody and sat on the eggs. I will keep my fingers crossed.
