Saddlebacks Piglets Weaned

Today I have weaned the saddleback piglets. The piglets are just approaching 8 weeks old and there are 27 piglets which has been alot for my two sows, Cagney and Lacy, to feed.

Two of my prospective weaner buyers came along to give a hand, so thanks Gregg and Belinda.

We transferred the sows into the other barn at feeding time this morning and the moving of the sows went well. We moved Lacy out forst and a few of the piglets followed but soon went back to the rest of the gang and then Cagney came out with alot of piglets in toe and then we managed to get her into the sow barn with out any piglets getting in.

The experience hasn’t seemed to phase either the sows or the piglets, infact I think Cagney is relieved that she can finally relax and rest without 15 piglets all trying to get at her milk.

  1. DH and I were just discussing last night how no one around here ever raises pigs anymore. We raised them when I was growing up and I always loved being in the barn in the middle of the night when the piglets were being born.

I would love for you to stop by my blog and add your site to the new list of farm blogs that I am compiling.
